Bio

Mr Shah graduated from St. George鈥檚 Hospital Medical School (London University) during which he also obtained a First Class Honours Degree in Biomedical Sciences. He then obtained his specialist ophthalmic training in the London Teaching Hospitals (St. Thomas鈥� Hospital, St. Georges Hospital, St. Mary鈥檚 Hospital, The Royal London Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital).

During his training he also undertook a research fellowship at St. Thomas鈥� Hospital where he conducted research into cataract surgery and ocular inflammation and was awarded the Southern Ophthalmological Society Prize Medal for this work. He then undertook further sub-specialist training as a Glaucoma Fellow at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. He was also awarded a King鈥檚 Fund Scholarship for a fellowship to visit ophthalmic centres in the USA (Universities of San Francisco and Los Angeles) to gain further sub-specialist experience.

He was initially appointed as a Consultant at St. Bartholomew鈥檚 Hospital and the Royal London Hospital in 1997 where he became Lead Clinician in Ophthalmology for both Audit and Research and Development. He then moved to a Consultant post at Epsom and St. Helier NHS Trust where he subsequently became Ophthalmology College Tutor, an Educational Supervisor, and Lead Clinician for Ophthalmology.

He has previously been a member of the London Deanery Ophthalmology Specialist Training Committee and a Council Member of the Royal Society of Medicine Ophthalmology Section. He was a Council Member of the British Medical Association Ophthalmic Group Committee and is also a member of the Oxford Ophthalmological Congress.
