Mr Vivek Gulati

Bio
Mr Vivek Gulati is an experienced consultant orthopaedic surgeon, specialising in hip, knee and partial knee replacements, as well as knee arthroscopy. He also offers cutting-edge biological treatments for joint preservation in patients who do not yet require joint replacement surgery.
Alongside his private practice, Mr. Gulati serves as the Lead Consultant Hip Surgeon at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and The Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre. He is also a member of the North East London Revision Joint Replacement Network. Combining state-of-the-art, evidence-based techniques with a compassionate approach, he collaborates with top radiologists and physiotherapists to ensure the highest standard of patient care and enhanced recovery pathways.
Mr Gulati actively monitors the outcomes of all his joint replacements via the National Joint Registry and digital patient reported measures. To ensure a high quality of joint replacements are maintained nationwide, he鈥檚 regularly involved with monitoring and evaluating the early performance of new and modified implants.
A dedicated educator, Mr. Gulati trains medical students and junior surgeons, earning an Honorary Lectureship at Imperial College London for his contributions. At Homerton Hospital he is a consultant lead for junior doctors, providing mentorship and career guidance. He is also a faculty member at Imperial College and Royal Free Teaching Faculties, helping to educate and inspire the next generation of surgeons. During his time in Bournemouth, he helped validate an early knee replacement simulator, earning Visiting Fellow status at Bournemouth University.

Mr Gulati completed his medical training at St. John鈥檚 College, Cambridge University, where he was awarded the prestigious Rolleston Prize, leading to a clinical internship at Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital, USA. He later secured a place on the highly competitive Imperial College North West Thames Surgical Rotation for his speciality training.
During his training, he took a year out to complete a Higher Master鈥檚 Research Degree at the Musculoskeletal Laboratory, Imperial College, conducting pioneering biomechanical research on osteoarthritis progression using advanced 3D gait analysis. He also contributed to developing a motion sensor for objectively assessing patient recovery after joint replacement surgery. His work was published in Gait & Posture and presented at the Orthopaedic Research Society in the USA.
He passed his FRCS exam on his first attempt in 2013 and was elected a Home Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons.
Fellowships
Mr Gulati completed Hip and Knee Fellowship Training at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, a renowned joint replacement centre, under Professors Middleton & Harvey鈥攍eading revision surgeons on the National Joint Registry.
He further honed his expertise at St. Michael鈥檚 Hospital, Toronto, gaining extensive experience in Revision Hip & Knee Surgery under Professor Waddell, former President of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association. During this time, he also acquired valuable trauma experience at this Level 1 Major Trauma Centre.

Mr. Gulati has an extensive research background and uses this to adopt an evidence-based approach to both the conservative (non-surgical) and surgical management of all patients.
He has published over 30 peer reviewed publications in a range of international high impact orthopaedic journals including the Bone & Joint Journal, Hip International, Skeletal Radiology, Gait & Posture, Clin Orthopaedic Related Research, Journal of Trauma and the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine.
He has presented his work at both national and international forums over 30 times including the Orthopaedic Research Society (USA), BOA (UK), Efort (Copenhagen), BASK (UK) and Sicot (Dubai).

Mr Gulati represented his university college at both football and cricket. He was the captain of the medical school football team and continues to be a sports enthusiast. As a Mancunian he has been a lifelong passionate supporter of Manchester United. He enjoys sampling different cuisine from all parts of the world and balances this with a regular gym attendance in a bid to stay fit!
